Artists' Bio

Jeffery Seaton has become known nationally, as well as internationally, for his devotion to quality combined with imagination that is reflected in his one-of-a-kind containers. Born in Buffalo, New York in 1947, he was raised from the age of five in Santa Barbara, California. It was there that the well-known art community along with the natural beauty of his surroundings influenced him. Although he had always been involved in some form of artistic expression, it was in 1973 that he found his calling in rare and exotic woods.

Jeffrey’s commitment to perfection is a refreshing contrast in the world of mass production. His patient attention to detail is reflected in his seven step sanding process that allows the viewer to see into the wood itself and produces a satin smooth tactile experience. Jeffrey says, "Every wood has a story, a historical progression that it has gone through before it gets to my workshop. Some tell their story visually, others tactilely, or aromatically. Still others, like the extremely rare African pink ivorywood are themselves a source of myth and legend in their native homelands. It’s the inherent beauty within each piece of wood that I try to bring to it’s own fruition."

Jeffrey and his wife Katrina started creating collaborative pieces in the late 1980’s. Katrina’s background in stained glass brought her sense of color and design to Jeffrey’s commitment to excellence in fine woodworking. Together their collaboration of metal, fiber, and wood, create an aesthetically pleasing and lasting work of art.

Jeffrey’s work is currently on display at the New York Museum of Modern Art, and is part of their permanent collection.
